Alice River teen death: Kane Moore found dead in Rupertswood Park

Police believe an 18-year-old boy who was found dead after a party in Townsville did not die naturally.

An investigation is underway after Kane Moore was found dead in a park, not far from his Alice River home in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Officers said the teenager had suffered a number of injuries which has raised suspicions over the circumstances that lead to his death.

“There was a number of injuries on the deceased that caused us to believe that it’s not just a sudden death that’s occurred as a result of a natural incident,” Acting Chief Superintendent Chris Lawson said on Monday.

Police were called to Rupertswood Park about 7.30am after a member of the public reported the discovery.

It is believed he died sometime on Friday evening or early Saturday morning.

A party had taken place not far from where the teen’s body was found and police have started speaking to those in attendance for witness statements.

“There were varying numbers at the party at various points throughout the night, but police are actively identifying those who were at the party and seeking versions from them as to what was occurring,” Superintendent Lawson said.

Tributes have flooded in on social media following the teen’s death.

His older sister Mikaela shared a heartbreaking tribute to the “best brother anyone could ask for”.

“I love you Kane, your cheeky and goofy personality will be forever missed,” she wrote to Facebook on Sunday.

“You were the best brother anyone could ever ask for, I wish we could turn back time.

“You were the best kid and you were so loved by everyone. Forever 18.”

A memorial tribute has been pulled together in the same park where the teen’s body was found and is already spilling over with flowers, photos and knick knacks.

“We have put to together a beautiful tribute if anyone would like to go and pay their respects,” family member Katie Gudge said.

“We are truly grateful for the endless love that our family has received over the last two days.

“Our hearts are still broken but our love is still very strong.”

Police are calling on members of the public who may have dashcam vision from Friday night and Saturday morning in the Hervey Range Road and Rupertswood Park area to come forward.
