Elisabeth Hasselbeck is so pissed off that Rosie ODonnell is returning to The View

Back in 2007, when The View was much more relevant and popular, co-hosts Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Rosie O’Donnell got into a heated argument over the way that conservative pundits were portraying Rosie’s opinion. That argument led to Rosie leaving the show after just nine months, and she later said that she thought the argument was pre-planned by producers. Elisabeth stayed on The View for six more years, finally departing last summer to head over to Fox News’ Fox and Friends, where was free to let her conservative flag fly.

It was thought that Elisabeth and Rosie buried the hatchet at some point, but there are obviously still hard feelings there. On Fox and Friends, Elisabeth discussed Rosie’s return to The View as if it were a personal affront to her. She also said that she thought Rosie’s deal with producers was in the works for several months, and she was incredibly miffed about it. Elisabeth called in to Fox and Friends because she’s currently on vacation, and she bitched about how this news ruined her vacation. Video is here and a partial transcript is below.

What could ruin a vacation more than to hear news like this?

I know Rosie very well. We worked quite closely. Talk about not securing the border. Here in comes to ‘The View’ the very woman who spit in the face of our military, spit in the face of her own network and really in the face of a person who stood by her and had civilized debates for the time that she was there.

Coming back with a bunch of control ready to regain a seat at The View table. Not surprising, I believe this has been in the works for a long time.

Go back to the reunion show for Barbara. When you have a woman who again insinuated that our own troops in Iraq were terrorists at the time then left the show, meanwhile still at the end of her contract. To have such ease at Barbara’s goodbye show was shocking to me. She walked around with a lot of control. And then when I had the chance to talk to her, Rosie herself told me on set, while we were miked up, that she produced the reunion show and that it was her idea. Do you think that the woman who left the way she did would be producing Barbara’s goodbye show? Here’s the shocker, it was actually her ‘hello show.’

Anyone who is going to be in that seat, if this is going to play out how I think it is, will have to be fully approved by Rosie. Let’s not forger, Whoopi Goldberg is sitting there. Whoopi is an EGOT, Whoopi has more trophies in her case than Rosie. She’s the leader on that show. I’m going to be very interested to see how that goes… I don’t think it would be wise for Rosie to challenge Whoopi on anything.

They also played a clip from TMZ live where Harvey Levin praised Elisabeth Hasselbeck and said that she held the show together by having a dissenting opinion. Then the Fox guy said that the problem with “this latest batch” is that everyone had “the same view, you need to have an opposing view otherwise it’s just dull.” Hello?! This is coming from Fox and Friends. Do they regularly showcase other opinions or have a panelist who doesn’t nod and smile along with the company line?

Elisabeth has been off The View since last summer, I get that she’s still attached to it but this doesn’t affect her at all. She’s moved somewhere where she fits in perfectly. It’s been years since she’s worked with Rosie and she obviously hates the fact that Rosie may be taking over Barbara’s role somewhat. I disagree that Whoopi and Rosie are going to butt heads. I bet they’ll get along quite well. They may not meet eye-to-eye on everything, but Rosie is going to be a much better boss than Barbara Walters.
